The Melamine Times Table Plate- By Education on a Plate is a favourite with primary school aged children. This fun kids tableware is a great visual aid for children learning their times tables.
For children aged 5-10:
Point out the patterns displayed in the plate, for example, the highlighted pink numbers running diagonally across the plate represent the squares of each number 1-12 (12=1, 22=4, 32=9, .. , 122=144).
Point out the horizontal and vertical patterns of the plate. Ask the child to pick any highlighted pink square in the grid and explain that all horizontal numbers from this point are the same as the vertical numbers from this point. For example, if we start at the pink highlighted "9" square, reading horizontally we will see 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 etc. If we start at the pink highlighted "9" and read vertically we will see the same pattern 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 etc. In other words 3x4 is the same as 4x3 and 3x5 is the same as 5x3 etc.
To find the product of any two numbers, help your child find one of the pink numbers in the top row and the other number in the far left column and find the intersecting square between the two numbers.
The Melamine Times Table Plate measures: 23cm x 23cm
